02 Sep Skin Detox: How to get your skin fresh & glowing for spring

During the winter months our skin can lack that healthy glow, and can often feel dry, dull and dehydrated. With spring already here and summer not far off, we want our skin to be looking and feeling rejuvenated and glowing.

In winter we often eat more hearty foods that are high in fat and sodium and this can have a major effect on our skin and body, causing breakouts, dull skin and puffiness. During the colder months it can be tricky to drink lots of water and eat clean foods with fruits and vegetables. Now that winter is finally over, it’s time to give our skin a natural detox to rid our body of built up toxins.

1: Drinking Lemon with water: Upon rising drink a tall glass of water with lemon juice or lemon slices. Lemon juice rejuvenates the skin as the vitamin C component helps to decrease blemishes, wrinkles and helps to combat free radical damage. The vitamin C in lemon is vital for clear glowing skin as its alkaline nature kills certain bacteria known to cause acne. Consuming lemon juice regularly has major health benefits, as it’s a natural detoxifier eliminating waste products from the body by flushing out all the unwanted toxins. It also supports your immune system from illness and infection and also aids digestion.

2: Juicing: Drinking juices and smoothies supercharge your nutrient intake and help your body to absorb all the nutrients of fruits and vegetables. This provides your body with pure micronutrients, vitamins and enzymes. Juices and smoothies are an easy way to consume fruits and vegetables, especially if you are someone who struggles with eating them. Different fruits and vegetables keep your skin looking healthy and radiant and keep skin soft and supple.

Juice Ideas:

Beetroot & Watermelon

Apple & Carrot

Pineapple, carrot, lemon & ginger

Kale, spinach, apple & ginger

3: Skincare: When doing a skincare detox I recommend to use skincare products that are all natural and don’t contain chemical such as Petrochemicals, PEGs, Parabens, sulfates, silicon’s, GMO’s, synthetic colours or fragrances. If you can’t pronounce it you shouldn’t be using it. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and is your body’s coat and what protects you. So it is important to use products that won’t harm or damage your skin. My favorite natural skincare brands that I have tried and tested are: Skin Juice Nutraceuticals I have used many of their products and my skin has never looked and felt more radiant and healthy. Their products are based around all fruits of nature to balance, repair and feed the skin at a deep cellular level. Here are a few of my favourite Skin Juice products:

DRENCH Skin Softening + Deep Cleansing Oil $40.50

BIO JUICE Antioxidant Rich + Hydrating Tonic $45.00

REVIVAL Refining Face Scrub $45.00

Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics is another favorite and again their products have made my skin feel and look amazing. I love that each product is handmade and made with love. They use whole, fresh ingredients that rejuvenate and help your skin. After using any Lush skincare product you will instantly notice results. It is truly amazing what natural skincare can do to your skin. My favourite Lush Products:

Ultraband Cleanser $17.95

Eau Roma Water $9.95

Vanishing Cream Moisturiser $39.95

The idea of this detox is to include more plant-based foods into your diet, which will help cleanse your body from the inside out making your skin healthy and glowing.
